Aero-medical examinations

At the CAVOK Aeromedical Center, certified ENAC IT-004-AeMC, you can carry out medical examinations, assessment and laboratory tests for the Achievement, Revalidation and Renewal of Medical Certificates of Psychophysical fitness for the Aeronautical Certificates of all Classes of Flight.

EASA CLASS 1

Types
  • Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) - Airplane and Helicopter
  • Line Pilot Licence (ATPL) - Airplane and Helicopter
  • Professional Pilot Student Licence - Airplane and Helicopter
  • Flight Engineer
Minimum age
  • 16 years
Maximum validity
  • Under 60 years: 12 months
  • 40 - 59 years old commercial single-pilot with passengers: 6 months
  • Over 60 years: 6 months

EASA CLASS 2

Types
  • Private Pilot Licence (PPL) - Airplane and Helicopter
  • Private Student Pilot Licence - Airplane and Helicopter
  • Glider Pilot Licence
  • Balloon Pilot's Licence
Minimum age
  • PPL planes, helicopters and airships: 16 years
  • Balloons and Hot Air Balloons: 14 years
Maximum validity
  • Less than 40 years: 5 years
  • 40 - 49 years: 2 years
  • Over 50 years: 12 months

EASA CLASS 3

  • 18 years
Maximum validity
  • Under 40: 2 years
  • Over 40 years: 1 year
A medical certificate issued before the age of 40 ceases to be valid at the age of 41.

LAPL

PARA

Type
  • Medical examinations to determine psycho-physical fitness for the granting of licences for parachuting activities

  • More than 50 years: 1 year

VDS

Recreational-sports Pilot Licence

Type
  • Initial or renewal medical check for VDS Licence, the examination includes:
    • Clinical examination
    • Electrocardiogram
    • Physical chemical examination of urine
    • Instrumental assessments provided for in Presidential Decree No 133 of 09/07/2010

INITIAL CLASS 1 and 3

The following steps are required to obtain an EASA Class 1 or Class 3 Medical Certificate:

  • Acceptance of the Candidate with appropriate forms
  • Filling out Application Form
  • Urine haematochemical and physicochemical tests
  • Alcohol and Drug Testing
  • Instrumental examinations (Audiometry and Spirometry)
  • Psychological Assessment, with test and interview
  • Specialised ophthalmic examination with instrumental examinations (Tonometry, visual field and possible eye test 2nd level colour perception*)
  • ENT specialist examination with instrumental examinations (Timpanometry and possible Endoscopy)
  • Specialised cardiology examination with instrumental tests (ECG)
  • AME (Aero-Medical Examiner)
  • Delivery of the medical certificate

All activities are carried out directly at the CAVOK Aeromedical Center.
The time estimated for completion of the entire pathway is approximately 5 hours.

* Any additional 2nd level medical assessment are not included in the pathway for the Initial medical check of Class 1 and 3.

What should you bring on the day of your medical check?

  • Your valid ID or passport
  • Your current medical certificate
  • Your flight licence or cabin crew certificate (if applicable)
  • Glasses and/or contact lenses (if applicable)
  • A recent prescription for glasses and/or lenses
  • List of medications you take daily (if applicable)
  • Past clinical documentation, specialist medical examinations carried out in the past, instrumental examinations performed (if applicable)
